Boys Staters are randomly assigned membership to either the Federalist or the Nationalist Party, parties that have no affiliation to real-world parties or ideologies.

Staters work throughout the week in party convention meetings and platform committee meetings to adopt a platform for their parties, elect party leadership, and hear speeches for the primary election.
